On May 24, 2014 (Saturday) at 12:00 the MSU Botanic Garden will host the opening of “Emerald City”, which is a specialized tour area for children with special needs.

The project “Emerald City” has already been designed in 2009. The idea of the project suggested creating a tour area for disabled children (children with limited mobility and low vision), where they would be able to explore the diversity of flora.

Therefore, during the implementation of this idea, we continuously gave a particular attention to the extent to which these children could grasp the material.

In order to make a new material more comprehensible and easier to memorize, the project was based on one of the most famous fairytales for children, namely “The Wizard of Oz”. Moreover, this fairytale was chosen due to its numerous interesting references to botany.
