MSU basketball team - the winner of ASB championship

Last weekend, on 5 and 6 May 2018 the Super final of the Russian Basketball Championship took place among student teams. During this season more than 800 teams representing all regions of Russia took part in the competitions held by the Association of Student Basketball. But only the best ones competed in the Super Final (the final part of multi-stage competitions). So Teams of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), Moscow State Academy of Physical Education (MGAFC), Saint-Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design (SUTD) and Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia BorisN. Yeltsin (UrFU) participated in the Final. 

The decisive games took place in Moscow in CSKA Universal Sports Hall, which containes a 4000 audience. Both days the Hall was filled to capacity and MSU students were a significant part of the fans. MGAFC Team replayed UrFU Team in the semifinals, and MSU Team was victorious over SUTD Team through a hard-fought struggle. The final match aroused great interest among basketball fans: it was possible to meet titled athletes, representatives of the media community andopinion leaders on the sidelines. So, for example, the actors of the film "Going Vertical" came to support their colleague Andrei Vakulchuk who is not only a student and a player of MGAFC Team but also an actor (he played a role of USSR national team player in the movie). Honorary President of VTB United League, Chairman of RFB guardianship Council Sergei B. Ivanov opened the match with welcome address. Then the initiative moved from one team to another in the match between MSU and MGAFK, but in the end MSU Team won the championship (with a score 73:66), the second place was taken by MGAFC team and the third by SUTD. MSU Team captain – a student of the Faculty of Geology Pavel Novikov - received an honorary cup from the hands of the 1972 Olympic champion Ivan Edeshko. Georgy Egorov, a student of MSU Faculty of Political Science became the best tournament and final sniper.

We congratulate our students of Higher School of Policy in Culture and Management in the Sphere of Humanities Sergey Kozlov, Eduard Semyonov and Ilya Sarattsev, students of the Faculty of Geology Pavel Novikov and Mikhail Gorbach, a student of the Faculty of Political Science Georgy Egorov, a student of the Faculty of Soil Science Maxim Nalizhty, a student of the Faculty of Public Administration Boris Doroshev and a student at the Faculty of Economics Dmitry Kuksenko for their victory!
