On 19 April 2018 the final of the International Programming Olympiad ACM ICPC was held in Beijing. Students of Lomonosov Moscow State University Mikhail Ipatov (3rd year student of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics), Grigory Reznikov (2nd year student of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics) and Vladislav Makeev (2nd year student of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics) under the leadership of Elena V. Andreeva (Head of the Computer science Department of the AESC MSU – Kolmogorov School) became absolute winners! This is the first such success of MSU Team.

140 teams from 51 countries competed in the final of ACM ICPC. They had to solve 11 problems in 5 hours. Our team Red Panda was among the leaders who solved on 8 problems, but lost to the opponents on time spent. Literally a few minutes before the end of the competition, the guys solved the ninth problem and became the absolute leaders.

Commenting on the success of the guys, the coach of the team Elena V. Andreeva noted that MSU Teams have been participating in the Student team World championship in programming for more than 20 years. Many of them won the medals and several times MSU students were on track to win. This year, under her leadership, our team won the World Champion title for the first time, ahead of both the strongest Russian teams of MIPT and ITMO University, and the best foreign teams from Universities of Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo.
