Russian-Chinese cooperation of Mathematics Professors

From 6 December 2018 to 8 December 2018 Lomonosov Moscow State University received a delegation of Mathematics Professors from Beijing and Shanghai Normal Universities within the framework of the All-Russian Congress of Mathematics Professors.

Delegates together with MSU Mathematics Professors took part in the round table “Vectors of Russian-Chinese scientific and educational”.  Professors of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, the Faculty of Space Research and the University Gymnasium told about the features of mathematics teaching at Moscow University, about the approaches to teaching mathematics in school and about the system of school mathematical projects. They also shared work experience at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University. For their part, Chinese colleagues reported on the reform of the system of mathematical education in China, on the author's methods of the Shanghai Mathematical School and on international exchange programs for Mathematics Professors.

The participants paid special attention to the use of virtual reality (VR) technologies in teaching mathematics at Moscow University. The participants got acquainted with the prototype of a VR lesson on stereometry developed by 11th grade school students in the contest of a joint project of the University Gymnasium, Virtual Reality Laboratory and the MSU Youth Research Platform.

Professor of Moscow State University, Corresponding Member of RAS Alexander V. Ilyin noted the common origin of the mathematical schools in Moscow and in Beijing. After that, Professor of Moscow State University Inna V. Sadovnichaia handed over a copy of the book “Mekhmat-80” as a gift to Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Wang Zikunu. This book was signed by Rector of Moscow State University Academician Victor A. Sadovnichy. It is worth mentioning that Wang Zikunu graduated from Moscow State University in the 1950s and then was Rector of Beijing Normal University. Also, Professor Inna V. Sadovnichaia handed over the sets of textbooks on mathematical analysis, signed by the Rector of MSU, to the libraries of Beijing and Shanghai Normal Universities.

Delegates from the People's Republic of China took part in working meetings at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, at the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics and at the University Gymnasium. They signed cooperation agreements and proposed specific ideas for joint projects within the framework of the Russian-Chinese initiative “Silk Road Professor of the 21st Century”:

-  academic exchange programs;

- summer schools of mathematics professors;

- international short-term educational programs;

- collaborative work on textbooks.
